The new beginning and today's society
Everything went exceptionally well with Zac's surgery and I'm hoping today will be a new beginning to the rest of his life. He's doing well and has been in a pretty good mood so far. What struck a nerve with me though is the fact that today's society finds it acceptable to call babies and children fat. I can understand chubby for babies and even big boy but I don't think that fat is an acceptable description for children. There have been several occurrences where random people would make crude comments and gestures at Mack saying how "fat" and "huge" he was. I know that some people don't mean anything by it, but it can be hurtful for a child to hear those words. Today was the first time Zac was called "fat" and I'm just glad Mack wasn't there to hear it. He repeats everything these days and is really starting to understand the meaning of words. Words do hurt and especially the way some people say them. I have been told that "I should be ashamed of myself for feeding my son so much and that I should stop feeding him because he was too fat", "Look at that fat baby he's so fat", "Oh my gosh he's huge!" "look at that fat baby", and today for Zac I heard "hey fatty you are so fat yes you are a fat little baby." Just wanted to take a moment to make you think before you speak. It wouldn't be acceptable for me to go around calling every over weight person fat, and hey fatty, or oh my gosh your huge, you should stop eating your too fat, so why would you think it's ok for you to do it to my children or anyone's children for that matter. Ok I'm off my soap box now, the day can now move foreward ;)
